19/52 Love Songs: "I Concentrate on You," by Fred Astaire

I Concentrate On You
Fred Astaire
(Cole Porter)

Whenever skies look gray to me
And trouble begins to brew
Whenever the winter winds become too strong--
I concentrate on you.
When fortune cries "Nay, nay" to me
And people declare "You're through"
Whenever the blues become my only song--
I concentrate on you.
On your smile so sweet, so tender
When at first your kiss I decline.
On the light in your eyes when I surrender
And once again our arms intertwine.
And so when wise men say to me
That love's young dream never comes true,
To prove that even wise men can be wrong
I concentrate on you.
On your smile so sweet, so tender
When at first your kiss I decline.
On the light in your eyes when I surrender
And once again our arms intertwine.
And so when wise men say to me
That love's young dream never comes true,
To prove that even wise men can be wrong
I concentrate on you.
I concentrate and I concentrate on you.

The Love Note

Dear Kara,

Well, for me, this one says it all. I have loved Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers since I was a teenager and began my “hopeless romantic” nature. My “love’s young dream” was more naïve then but no less sincere now that I’m somewhat older and wiser. I love you now more than ever. With you, I have found a deeper and truer love than I had ever hoped for when I was a teen. I’ve found that “concentrating on you” has not only been a way of showing you how much I love you, but it also helps me when I’m feeling down and unfocused. Of course, it also helps our relationship. This and the other songs help me “concentrate on you” when I’m upset with you (or you, me) and remind me of what’s really important between us.

Thanks for being my baby.

Love,
Da Pootie.
